Linked NASA-AFWA Global Soil Moisture and Temperature Project
Investigators: PIs John Eylander (AFWA) and Christa Peters-Lidard (NASA-GSFC)

Abstract
|
|
Air Force Weather Agency (AFWA) successfully implemented the use of the
NASA Land Information System (LIS) to replace their Agriculture Meteorology (AGRMET)
model providing global soil moisture and temperature analysis.
Funding for this project primarily came directly from AFWA with supplemental support
provided by ASP. Specifically, John Eylander of the Air Force Weather Agency (AFWA)
has partnered with NASA/GSFC (C. Peters-Lidard PI) for their use of the NASA LIS
integrating the latest NASA remote sensing products such as MODIS and TRMM into
a computationally efficient, end-user oriented, performance enhanced system.
NASA's LIS higher resolution soil moisture and temperature analysis would benefit
DoD Decision Support Systems, including Army mobility software and the
Target Acquisition Weapons Software (TAWS) -
Night Vision Goggle Operational Weather Software (NOWS).
